In plain English

NetSuite Next is the biggest makeover of NetSuite since it was founded. Three things change the day-to-day: a fresh, modern look called the Redwood UI; a built-in AI assistant called Ask Oracle that you talk to in plain English; and AI Canvas, a shared workspace where you and the AI think through a problem together. Underneath, it’s still your NetSuite — same data, same rules, same permissions — just easier to use and able to answer questions and take action, not only store records.

Same system of record, a new front door. NetSuite Next keeps your data and controls but changes how you see and interact with them.

Why does this matter?

Because NetSuite’s look hadn’t fundamentally changed in years, and the people who need answers most — finance, ops, sales — often had to wait on an analyst to build a saved search. NetSuite Next flips that: the interface feels like a modern app, and you can simply ask. Oracle’s founder Evan Goldberg called it the biggest update since the company was founded. The catch worth knowing up front: it rolls out gradually, region by region, and the AI is only as trustworthy as the data and permissions behind it.

Quick summary: NetSuite Next is Oracle’s most significant overhaul of the NetSuite platform since its founding, announced at SuiteWorld 2025 and expanded at SuiteConnect 2026. It combines three headline changes — the modern Redwood UI, the Ask Oracle natural-language assistant, and AI Canvas collaborative workspaces — on top of agentic workflows and a governed foundation delivered through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Critically, it’s grounded in your existing data, roles, permissions, and policies, included with existing licenses, and adopted gradually rather than via a forced migration. This guide explains each pillar and how to get your account ready.

What is NetSuite Next?

NetSuite Next is best understood as a platform change, not a feature. Oracle re-engineered the foundations for speed and responsiveness, unified the data model, and layered explainable, auditable AI on top — all on OCI. Founder Evan Goldberg framed it as the biggest update since the company began. The official overview below is a useful 2-minute primer before we go feature by feature.

Official NetSuite overview — “NetSuite Next: AI Built Into Your ERP” (NetSuite, Apr 2026). For the full product overview, see the official NetSuite Next page and Oracle’s SuiteWorld 2025 announcement.

The Redwood UI

The Redwood Experience is Oracle’s modern design system — already used in NetSuite EPM, Analytics Warehouse, and OpenAir — now coming to the core suite. It’s not cosmetic: record lists and forms are reimagined with smart filters and search, infinite scrolling, collapsible field sections, a persistent sticky header with always-available search and “Create New,” and clearer reports. The goal Oracle states is to make enterprise software feel as good as consumer apps and cut the learning curve for new hires. It’s available today as a per-user opt-in toggle (Home > Set Preferences > Appearance > Redwood Experience > Enable) and is expected to become the default around 2027. (See the official NetSuite User Experience page.)

Ask Oracle

Ask Oracle is the centerpiece — a natural-language assistant to search, navigate, analyze, and act across the entire NetSuite dataset in your own words. It delivers context-aware answers, visualizations, and interactive content, and explains the how and why behind each response. Importantly for trust, it has transparency built in: when it answers, NetSuite highlights the numbers and links back to the source report, transaction, or field so you can verify. It builds on Global Search and acts across customizations and SuiteCloud extensions, including partner apps in the SuiteCloud Developer Network.

A question we get constantly: how does Ask Oracle relate to the bring-your-own-AI NetSuite AI Connector Service (MCP)? They’re complementary:

AI Canvas

AI Canvas is a collaborative workspace embedded in NetSuite where, as Oracle puts it, thinking, analysis, and action come together. Instead of exporting to Excel, modeling in a spreadsheet, and presenting in PowerPoint, a canvas lets teams analyze a problem with live data, model what-if scenarios (“what happens to margin if we raise prices 5%?”), visualize impacts with interactive charts, and trigger agentic workflows once a decision is made. You work side by side with the AI — refining its output, adding your own notes and assumptions — then share the canvas so finance, ops, and executives see the same context and conclusions.

Our honest read: AI Canvas is the most forward-looking pillar — and the one most likely to feel thin at first launch. Collaborative scenario planning on live ERP data is genuinely hard to build well, so treat early AI Canvas as a promising preview and validate it against your own models before retiring spreadsheets.

Agentic workflows

Beyond answering, NetSuite Next introduces agentic workflows — proactive, AI-driven processes that can automate complex tasks like payment proposals, vendor selection, reconciliations, and supply-chain operations. You can kick one off directly from Ask Oracle, or let agents run behind the scenes and surface outliers. The governing principle Oracle repeats is “agents propose, you approve”: you can require approval of key decisions or allow autonomy, and every action leaves an audit trail. The most ambitious autonomous, multi-step scenarios are realistically 12–24 months from production maturity for most accounts — start with bounded use cases.

Availability, licensing & migration

  • Timeline — announced at SuiteWorld 2025 (Oct 2025); Redwood is opt-in now (tied to the 2026.1 release) and expected default around 2027; Ask Oracle and AI Canvas roll out through 2026, North America first, with other regions following into 2026–2027.
  • Licensing — included with existing NetSuite licenses at no extra cost (some adjacent EPM agents need separate licensing).
  • Migration — not forced. Oracle describes switching “with the press of a button,” keeping your data, configuration, and customizations, adopted at your own pace.
  • Foundation — delivered on OCI, grounded in your data and existing controls, with explainable, auditable AI.
Dates move: Oracle doesn’t publish every NetSuite Next rollout date, and schedules shift. Treat any specific month as directional and confirm your account’s eligibility with your NetSuite team.

How to prepare

  1. Enable Redwood for a pilot group — it’s a per-user toggle, so a few power users can live in it now and report friction.
  2. Audit UI-dependent customizations — custom forms, client scripts, and layouts should be tested under Redwood in a sandbox before a broad switch.
  3. Clean data and tighten roles — Ask Oracle is only as good as the data and permissions behind it; least-privilege roles matter more, not less.
  4. Pick bounded AI use cases — choose one or two agentic workflows (e.g. reconciliation assistance) to trial rather than “AI everywhere.”
  5. Set AI governance early — decide what agents may do autonomously vs what needs approval, and how you’ll review the audit trail.

Key takeaways

  • NetSuite Next is a platform overhaul: Redwood UI + Ask Oracle + AI Canvas + agentic workflows on a governed OCI foundation.
  • Redwood is opt-in today; Ask Oracle and AI Canvas roll out through 2026, North America first.
  • It’s included with existing licenses and isn’t a forced migration — you keep data and customizations.
  • The AI is governed by your existing roles and permissions, with source citations and an audit trail.
  • Prepare now: pilot Redwood, audit UI customizations, clean data, and choose bounded AI use cases.

Frequently asked questions

Does NetSuite Next cost extra?

No. Oracle has positioned NetSuite Next — including the Redwood UI, Ask Oracle, and AI Canvas — as included with existing NetSuite licenses at no additional cost, delivered through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Some adjacent capabilities (for example, certain EPM agents) require separately licensed products, so confirm specifics with your NetSuite account team.

Do I have to migrate to NetSuite Next?

No. Oracle describes NetSuite Next as something you can switch to with the press of a button, without a data migration and without disrupting existing customizations. The transition is designed to be gradual — you keep your data, configuration, and customizations and adopt at your own pace. The Redwood UI is already available as a per-user opt-in toggle.

When is NetSuite Next available?

NetSuite Next was announced at SuiteWorld 2025 (October 2025) and expanded at SuiteConnect 2026. The Redwood UI is available now as an opt-in toggle and is expected to become default around 2027. Oracle stated NetSuite Next would be available initially for North America within roughly 12 months of the announcement, with Ask Oracle and AI Canvas rolling out through 2026 in North America first and other regions following into 2026–2027. Dates are subject to change.

What is the difference between Ask Oracle and the NetSuite AI Connector Service?

Ask Oracle is Oracle’s built-in conversational assistant inside NetSuite Next — a pre-built experience for searching, analyzing, and acting across the suite in natural language, with answers delivered in the system of record. The NetSuite AI Connector Service is the opposite model: a bring-your-own-AI MCP server that lets external clients like Claude or ChatGPT query NetSuite. Ask Oracle suits routine in-product queries; the AI Connector suits custom, developer-controlled workflows. Both run under your existing roles and permissions.

Will NetSuite Next break my customizations or SuiteScript?

Oracle’s stated design is that NetSuite Next preserves your existing data, configuration, and customizations, and Ask Oracle is intended to act across customizations and SuiteCloud extensions. That said, the Redwood UI restructures forms and navigation, so custom forms, client scripts, and UI-dependent customizations should be tested under Redwood in a sandbox before you switch users over. Treat it as a UI-compatibility review, not a rebuild.
